Kavya Commences B.Com Course at T.S. Narayanaswami College
In further evidence that the
Indian Triathlon Federation is one of the most progressive National
Sporting Federations in India, Indian Triathlon Academy Female
Triathlete T.S Kavya recently commenced her Bachelor of Commerce studies
at the T.S. Narayanaswami College in Chennai.
This is a significant development as it is the first time that an Indian
Triathlete, let alone a female athlete, has had the opportunity of full
scholarship that includes a University education. The Indian Triathlon
Federation, through its friends and supporters as part of its athlete
scholarship already provide full board and lodging, along with all
equipment and clothing, and all coaching and training costs to Academy
athletes.

The Federation believes it
is not only important to develop its athletes physically, but they must
have an education to enable them to make a contribution to society and
have the opportunity for a career once their athletic days are complete.
This is no small undertaking by the Federation and the start of a larger
program between T.S.N College and the Indian Triathlon Federation to
entice athletes to train and compete for India while still having the
opportunity to study and earn a degree

The T.S Narayanaswami
College is promoted by The India Cements Educational Society and is
affiliated to the University of Madras. Located just outside Chennai,
the College also provides training facilities for athletes of the Indian
Triathlon Academy with the recent addition of a cycle track and a 400
metre running track due for completion in the near future.

Over the next 3 years Kavya,
along with other members of the Academy who will commence at the College
upon completion of their school studies, will need to juggle the
physical demands of their sport preparing for the Commonwealth Games in
Melbourne, Australia and the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar both to be held
in 2006 along the normal demands of University study and exams.
With the full support of the College and the Indian Triathlon Federation
we look forward to not only seeing Kavya represent her country in
Triathlon with distinction, but also achieving Academic & Athletic
results that will bring credit to the staff and students at T.S.N.
College.
